Plymstock is situated some three miles south east of Plymouth on the bank of the river Plym. Located in the outstandingly beautiful South Hams, Plymstock is made up of several smaller hamlets, those being Turnchapel, Staddiscombe, Pomphlett, Oreston, Mountbatten, Hooe, Goosewell, Elburton and Billacombe. Due to its close proximity to Plymouth and its associated employment and leisure opportunities, the area developed steadily after the Second World War and became a popular commuter suburb for this large University City. Today Plymstock manages to combine the advantages of easy access for work with all the lifestyle benefits that the South Hams can offer.

The pedestrianized Broadway shopping centre, constructed in 1960, provides plenty of local amenities such as banks, shops and supermarkets. The community is well served too by its churches, including the 700 year old Parish Church of St Mary and All Saints, and St Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Excellent local schools, including Coombe Dean in Elburton and Plymstock School, designated a Specialist Sports College, provide wide ranging educational facilities for the large population of young families. Both schools are recognized as “outstanding” in recent Ofsted reports. Local leisure facilities include the bowling club established in 1936, an active cricket club, golf club and Plymstock’s own football club, Plymstock United FC.
